Effective September 7, 2021, all individuals coming on site to any SickKids premises are required to be fully immunized (an individual is fully immunized 14 days after receiving their second dose of a two-dose vaccine series). If you are not fully immunized, Connected Care offers Virtual Education. Due to limited capacity, priority will be given to those providing/ planning to deliver direct care to children with medical complexity and technology dependence.

Description

This competency-based workshop will prepare the community health-care provider with introductory knowledge and skills to care for a child with a tracheostomy. Respiratory assessments, safety issues, oxygen therapy, care of the tracheostomy including suctioning, stoma care and tube changes, and managing urgent situations will be addressed. Participants will have the opportunity to practice skills and participate in simulated home visits of a child requiring this medical technology.

Pre-requisites: Participants should have a basic understanding of the respiratory system. Registered participants are required to complete the learning package prior to attending the virtual workshop in order to fully participate in the learning activities planned throughout the day.

  • Participants are asked to self screen for symptoms of COVID-19 prior to attending. Please do not attend if you have any symptoms
